It's a Fine Line explores the invisible rope that is harnessed on people of color. If we make one unknowingly wrong gesture, be at the wrong place at the wrong time, or simply practice autonomy…. we could be killed. There are roughly around four thousand images beneath me. There are roughly four thousand images of people color beneath me. The rope, connected to the saw, is wrapped tightly around my body. If I were to flinch or make any sort of movement the saw could fall and potentially cut my throat.
Anthony Sims is a Chicago based interdisciplinary time-based Performance Artist / Theatre Maker whose mission is to embody black and queer experiences through performance. Being a queer man of color coming from the south, he looks for ways of pushing against existing norms of art to convey honesty through incongruity. He is currently earning his MFA in Performance at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
